A Trip from the 60’s…the 1860’s Part 1

We at State Controlled Media took a trip to a Civil War expose commemorating the 150 anniversary of the war and all things 1861. The event took place in Herman Mo. The locals dressed in typical 19th century garb and showed the sightseers how the people of the time lived, worked, cooked and wasted time. State Controlled Media asked many questions about the authenticity of the various displays weapons and gadgetry. We were assured by the players that everything was true to the time.
One such player even remarked that even the horse excrement was authentic. That got us thinking, was it really? It has been 150 years; has there been no advancement in horse scat? Further investigation was needed. All query’s on the subject matter seemed to entice strong resistance; we suspected we were on to something. Finally we found a learned fellow who assured us that the horse chips were in fact genuine.
As it stands, we happened to accidentally steal our own sample. Seems the reenactment people were somewhat careless with the props and some found its way into our shoe's tread. We felt guilty and tried to report our crime to the local constabulary. For some reason, the local authorities were not interested in taking the evidence; they suggested, no, demanded that no one would care if we took it and examined it ourselves. Skeptical, we decided to follow the officer’s advice. We can now safely say…the horse plop; real…

A Case For State Controlled Media

by Matthew Williams on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 7:37pm
For many years I have listened to talk show hosts and right wing pundits clamoring that the government is out to control the media; that we may already be on the road to a state controlled media. I have been an ardent proponent for a free press all my life; believing (as the founding fathers did) that a free press is paramount in a free society. The thought that the media would be controlled, and we would only hear one point of view, made me more than a little freighted for our country (or my country if you are reading this and are not from the USA).

As it is with so many things in my life, age has brought me a different perspective on things. Case in point; at one point in my life I had the profound assertion that girls were...icky. Whether or not girls are icky has yet to be decided on a scientific level, using approved standards of measurement and the appropriate scientific method, I have formulated my own theory...that girls are not icky.

In fact I believe that girls are the exact opposite of icky and in fact can be as seductive as the most delicious, decadent dessert and and as addictive as any number of opiates. I also once believed that yellow snow was from close contact with lemonade. Life has a way of changing your opinion; either through delightful discoveries or bitter experiences that leave a bad taste in your mouth.

One of my other discoveries was that the trusted, fatherly figures on the television did not always tell me the truth. At one point, I thought that these personifications of the yellow snow had my best interests at heart and were the defenders of my country; not just shills for some political ideology. To all my detractors out there this is proof positive that I have been and can be mistaken.

Now that I have reached a certain age of maturation; I find the exact opposite is the case. The so called defenders of the media have a solution; fight fire with fire. Slant the news in the other direction. I have a third option. Let the government take over. Let the state take over the papers, radio, TV and internet. What is the worst that could happen? We get lied to on a daily basses and only hear one point of view. Kinda like what already is happening already.

At least then we might get to hear the media say something positive about the USA. In fact it would be mandatory.

Any fool can have the facts, but having an opinion is an art form.

The Ten Comandments revisited

'I am the LORD your God… Just think of me as a big brother really

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' Or you can worship celebrities and politicians or really any alternative religions you like because who am I to judge really?

TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.' Unless you want to put them in a church or on a t-shirt or those nifty bracelets I still think bumper stickers are out of line though.

THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.' That is unless you hit your thumb with a hammer or are really, really mad. And feel free to use it liberally in music and film because I don’t want to be known as the God who doesn’t support the arts.

FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.' Unless it’s inconvenient to you; I understand the obligations to work and family and heck even having a good time. And to all you preachers; by all means please use this time to express personal beliefs and push political agendas.

FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother Until they become burdensome then put them in a home or don’t bother to check on them or mouch off them until their savings are gone. Oh, make them get a reverse mortgage those are cool.'

SIX: 'You shall not murder.' Unless the person is inconvenient to you or it is state sanctioned. Revenge is always good as well and you can be totally forgiven if you come from an impoverished area or had bad parents.

SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.' Unless it is a private act between two consenting adults; I mean who am I to judge what goes on behind closed doors. People have urges, I get it I am a hip God.

EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.' Unless it is by majority vote. Or you have stuff that others don’t and they won’t share. Or It just seems fair to take it from them. Or you come from an impoverished background.

NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.' However if it gets your ass out of a crack why not? I mean who wouldn’t lie? It is only natural to try and protect yourself so how can I really hold you accountable? Especially about sex; who doesn’t lie about sex?

TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.' But then again how else are you supposed to know what you want? Besides I am just a swinging God at heart really.

My rules of life...not all of them but some

by Matthew Williams on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 9:10pm
These were compiled from various sources some are mine but most are stolen

Rules of life: #1 Gravity wins, #2 Math IS hard, #3 the game is won or lost before you play, #4 the road to hell is paved with adverbs, really, #5 the devil Really (see rule #4) is in the details, #6 If it can go wrong it has gone wrong before, #7 For every rule there is a reason, #8 All generalizations are wrong, #9 Pessimists are always happier than you, #10 If you think it is a bad idea you are right and it is probably too late to worry about it so don't, #11 differences in temperature, pressure, and chemical potential equilibrate in an isolated physical system over time, #12 bowdlerization is flipping silly, #13 Sometimes your absence is the best gift you can give, silence comes in a close second, #14 It's always darkest before it turns absolutely pitch black, #15 If you find it too hard to laugh at yourself others will be happy to do it for you, #16 Honesty is the best policy -- when there is money in it, #17 It is not necesssary to understand things in order to argue about them, #18 A good listener is usually thinking about something else, #19 A troubled past can be fixed by a bad memory, #20 If you think someone is arrogant chances are they are just better than you, #21 Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night (This should be #1), #22 If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you’ve never tried before, #23 Eat right, Exercise, stay fit, die anyway #24 The more money you make the more expensive the things you want to buy become. #25 Your job does not define you but it does set the parameters #26 You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she’s pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment and even then I would act like nothing was happening #27 Everyone tells the truth...or is it lies? You decide, #28 Never pass up a chance to void your bladder, #29 Always look for the toilet paper before you close the door in a public restroom #30 Be careful about taking medical advice from the internet. You may die of a misprint.
Oh...did I mention gravity wins?

In Defense of The First Galactic Empire (repost)(WARNING SCI FI TALK)

by Matthew Williams on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 2:50pm

Today a religious sect backed by wealthy monarchs toppled the duly elected government of a once proud republic.
Many people observed that the actions of the government over the last 30 years had created animosity towards it. Some even questioned the legality of the process for appointing its leader. It is hard to agree with many thing s the last administration had done in its efforts to “Preserve the republic, and protect it from all enemies foreign and domestic”. In fact, many polices were spawned in an effort to promote free trade. Conspiracy theorists said that the administration deliberately caused the trade embargos to solidify the public and gain further power.
Regardless of the short comings of this last administration, or whether or not you agree with the policies regarding trade and human rights, it is hard to be on the side of those who sought to destroy the representative government that brought this about. Should not have this been handled through the electoral process? The courts? It is hard to be on the side of those who brought down the government no matter how sympathetic you are to their supposed cause, especially when it is being fronted by religious zealots.

In the end you have to ask yourself, “Can I support a group of people who brought down a government perpetrating peace while murdering thousands of our soldiers and taking out our elected leader?” Only time will give us the answer to that question.

*************************************************************************************************
Sound like it could be ripped from today’s headlines yes? But it was not; in fact it happened: A Long, Long Time Ago, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
That’s right! I am talking about the Rebel Alliance taking down the duly elected Galactic Empire. First the facts:
  1. The First Galactic Empire was headed by Palpatine a senator from Naboo, elected to Chancellor who became Emporer at the pleasure of the Senate.
  2. The Rebel Alliance was a well funded separatist movement lead by a religious sect and funded by wealthy monarchs like Queen Padme Amidala and Princess Liea as well as Bail Organa the monarch of Alderaan.
  3. The war could be boiled down to warring factions of the same religious sect; where one side believes that the other ‘worships’ incorrectly.

Those three points must be taken into account before any detailed analysis can be made. Before any of you come across with the ‘Palpatine worked to set up circumstances to solidify his power and take control” thing. Let me remind you that history is written by the winners and I fear you have been sucked in by the propaganda. The Trade Federation is a prime example of crony capitalism; where in an effort to gain market share a private company gets in bed with government and in the process solidifies the position of the elected official eventually under cutting their own position and destroying capitalism in the process (Rant for another day). So, the Trade Federation tries to work with the Republic and winds up fighting with the Monarchs.
The Religious sect, The Jedi, had power in the Old Republic when they found out that the Emperor worshiped the same ‘Force’ as they did but in a different way he was deemed “Too dangerous to live”. They had no other evidence of a crime other than he was a ‘Sith Lord’. He was hailed at this point for ending the corruption of the Senate.  Queen Padme was a participating member of the republic who had an elicit affair with one of the members of the Jedi and turned on him when he refused to go against the legal government. Meanwhile the Jedi sent the same member of their own council to spy on the leader of the republic. Is it any wonder the young man had misgivings and was confused?

The Jedi are a whole story on their own. The scour the galaxy looking for youths to indoctrinate in their religious practices; taking them away from family and friends and then putting them into dangerous situations. In the case of Luke Skywalker, one of the Jedi-the same on who ruined Luke’s father-was living in a cave and recruited a local youth to attack the empire. The Jedi even helped develop and fought along with a clone army. They were fine with it until it no longer served their purpose and then the clone army became a toll of evil. Hypocrisy at its finest!

The Rebel alliance also has dealings with known gangsters and smugglers. For pay mercenaries who would throw their lot in with anyone. In fact theses people became military leaders like Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. The Empire did use bounty hunters; this is true; mainly after certain parts of the galaxy became so inhospitable to the citizens of the Empire that it became too dangerous to search out single individuals.  Both parties are stained with guilt.

As I mentioned earlier, if you believe that the Rebel alliance is the “good” guys you have swallowed the propaganda. I submit that over the years the films have been edited to make the already sympathetic rebels look even more magnanimous. For instance when Han Solo murders a bounty hunter in a bar-a legally authorized debt collector-he is hailed for it. In later years the top propagandizer. Manipulated the film to make it look like Han was shot at first when he clearly killed Greedo from a hidden pistol under the table. Then we are supposed to believe the Han and Jaba have a friendly conversation moments later?

Personally I don’t see how anyone could root for the so called “Rebel Alliance”. What are they rebelling against? A duly elected representative republic; a misguided, some would say naive body, that appointed an Emperor. The Rebel alliance is an Oligarchy plain and simple. On the separatist worlds you would notice the lawlessness and corruptness that is allowed as long as it disrupts the Empire. This form of governance is good for the select few who have money or royal linage. You also note that Monarch usually claim that power has been vested in them through an act of divine providence.  I am no fan of the Empire however I am not one to follow cultists into a violent overthrow of a legal government. I would prefer that they worked within the system to affect change. Even though the Emperor has the same religious beliefs as the Jedi he derived his power through the electoral process. Let’s hear what he has to say:

“We are an Empire ruled by the majority! An Empire ruled by a new Constitution! An Empire of laws, not of politicians! An Empire devoted to the preservation of a just society. Of a safe and secure society! We are an Empire that will stand for ten thousand years!" Palpatine

Which would you rather support an Empire  of laws or a a Confederation of Monarch who wield their power through religious fanatics?

Excerpt from The Educated Man

I have come to the conclusion that certain people think they are smarter than others…no really…it’s true. In fact certain groups of people think that anyone belonging to other groups are thereby less intelligent for the mere inclusion in these groups; whether it is birthright or vocation the prejudice is spread equally. (There is a thought: prejudices being spread equally; save it for another day Matthew.)
I tend to agree. All people are smarter at what they know than those who don’t know what they know. The question becomes this: How useful is the knowledge that you know to those who don’t know what you know? I am about to dog on people who are city dwellers and have extensive university alliances. So, If you are one of these I apologize profusely for any possible affront, purpose-full or otherwise, that may or may not befallen onto you through the forth-coming missive. Please take all comments that you find offensive and regard them as having been meant for someone else that is not you. AS you know they are the real assholes.

Welcome!
