Global outreach....

We at State Controlled Media have neglected to update all the various countries that have come to the blog since inception. There were a few good reasons:

1. we got bored with it
2. well...there really is only the one reason

So, we stopped; that is until today. We got a view from the Faroe Islands. Technically speaking they are a sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark and not their own country; they are mostly self sufficient. When we did this initially we liked to point out something interesting or unusual about the country. It seems to be a unique collection of traditions and culture that seems unspoiled by the modern age. Look for yourself Faroe Island. Having said that there is nothing that has jumped out at us besides the fact that we had never heard of it before. Even the fact that there are no McDonald's on the island counts as that special. Here is a list "TRIVIA". You can watch this video:

10 Interesting Facts about Faroe Islands

Which only lists 2 facts.

For some reason I really want to go there and see this place for myself. So, to whom ever it was who logged on to our blog, Welcome! We are proud to have been viewed nor more than 3 miles from the ocean.

Telling you what to teach...

As avid watchers of the History Channel we think we have stumbled upon something. It’s a concept really, an idea. It could be possibly a revolutionary idea…
We should stop teaching history. I know, I know; I can hear you all right now. Possibly, some of you are butchering the quote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".  It is a valid point. This quote came from the philosopher George Santayana, and he is quite correct. There are two problems with this. One,  we scarcely pay attention in school and by all accounts there are around 10,000 years of human history we need to study. Two, human memory and recollection is inherently faulty.   Any police officer and death row inmate will tell you that eye witness accounts are the least reliable source. Historian’s standard of proof is the source is not reliable if it was not first hand.  In Egypt, there have been arguments for the last 20 years about the age of certain monuments. Geologists are saying that certain rocks are older than we thought based on weathering patterns and environmental conditions. Historians are saying someone wrote on the wall that the monument is this old and that trumps science.
I say why worry about it. Seriously look at Earth History. Much of the world does not study history now. They have no global consciousness of what history is or means. The history most Americans are familiar with is mainly centered on European dominated geo-political adventures. There are other cultures ancient and just as large as anything the Romans had. Thanks to the movie 300 some of you have heard about the Persian Empire. No, this was not a great Muslim Empire as one youth suggested to me.
It went like this:
Stupid Youth: See, people are all upset about how Muslims are influencing the world but they have been around a lot longer than Christians!
Me knowing that Islam was formulated as a prescribed set of beliefs around 600 AD: What?
SY: The Muslims attacked Greece and were a much greater society than anything in Europe at the time!
Me knowing that the Persian Empire’s, also known as Media, religious affiliation was known as Zoroastrian and the Priests were call Magi and it was more or less a cult of Fire: …………….
So there you have it. Now if I didn’t have a background in ancient history I would not have been bothered by his inane diatribe. It wasn’t his fault, it was mine. Really who is to say I am right? I wasn’t there.
Back to my point, there were great ancient empires in Africa and China that most people do not know about. And what does it matter? We not only ignore ancient history we ignore recent history and we ignore our own personal history. And we keep pounding away at the world making a little progress here and there and yes repeating mistakes.  If we spend little to no time studying history we can devote our effects to science and language. We can stop worrying about who was better and who was right. People do not have to carry on their shoulders the weight of atrocities conducted hundreds of years ago.
When our children are born we should take every effort not to tell them about the past and only focus on the now and training for the future. Motivations and actions of people will no longer be held to a standard of who came before but just jugged on their own merits. Another reason to abolish teaching history is intellectuals study the disastrous policies of the past and think that they are smarter than the people who came before and with their superior intellect they can make Fascism, communism, and ism work where others have failed.
So stop teaching history, the history channel stopped showing it. And if not showing historical shows on the History Channel can work (like not showing music on Mtv) I think we can ignore it all together.

Telling you what to watch...

Now You See Me

The Mrs. and I were in the mood for some cinema. You see we were celebrating our 17th anniversary and there is nothing better than to sit in a dark room with strangers. As we were both Will Smith fans we really wanted to check out his new movie After Earth. Now as this is State Controlled Media and it is our job to tell you what to watch and not the other way around, we rarely listen to the average movie goers reviews. We do listen to professionals though. And when you see “Quite simply, this is one of the worst films of 2013” Chicago Sun Times and “Surprise — this bad dream is for real.” St Louis Post-Dispatch it gives you pause. So entertained by the negativity we decided to see what the people thought and their sentiments ranged along the same lines. While doing this we saw a lot of positive buzz for “Now You See Me” from the average person. The critics were giving it 5 out of 10 and the people were going 7. So we settled in on this movie.

The cast was great. Jesse (I play the same character in every movie) Eisenberg, Mark (shave already)Ruffalo, Woody (I give believability and likability to any character I play) Harrelson, Dave (the lesser known and possibly more talented and charming) Franco, Morgan (could you read the phone book for me) Freeman and Michael (Same as Morgan) Cain. The female character was flat uninteresting and played wooden by whatever her name was. She was so unlikable it wasn't worth the time to look her up. I am tempted to go over the plot as I have seen many discussions amongst the professional and amateur reviewers alike. I will not do this. The plot is meaningless. The beginning was fast paced and like any good magic show the misdirection was enough to trick you into thinking you are watching a decent movie.

A third of the way through it, the movie slowed down enough for me to start thinking. The last thing you want is the Perpetual Supreme Benevolent Editor to have time to think. After 5 minutes of nothing happening I realized I hate this movie. The big reveal at the end shows how the magicians robbed banks and did their tricks. This only reinforced me hating this movie. The magicians simple tricks to robbing banks were so complicated and convoluted that it would have been more difficult to do than digging through the concrete and steel reinforced walls of a bank vault with a plastic spoon. That is how impossible it all was.

Every person who rated this 7 or higher (as of this writing it is an average 7.5 on most sites) and every critic who gave it 5 or higher (all scales out of ten) are missing the point. Who cares about the plot holes and the fact magic tricks are easy to do in a movie when there is no real effort involved! The movie was plain stupid! The big reveal at the end sucked the life out of everything you just watched. And don't even get me started on the motivations of the magicians in the first place. Their goal was to become so well known they can NEVER be seen in public again and steel millions of dollars and not keep any of it. S-T-U-P-I-D.

Damn you Will Smith for not making a better movie so we didn't have to watch this steaming heap!

I think I just got Played by M. Night And he really didn't make a movie and it was all a trick to get me to see Now You See Me...
