We at State Controlled Media were saddened to learn of the passing of Andy Rooney…what’s that? You don’t know who he is? Well, that’s ok. Andy has been on TV for 30 plus years a few minutes at a time. You see he was on a show called 60 Minutes (a proud if unknowing SCM affiliate). Hmm…what’s that? You didn’t know he was still alive? Well he was. Those who were avid devotes of 60 Minutes (both of us) could never forget the last minute of the show dedicated to the shrewd rants of this lovable curmudgeon. Ahh…many a Sunday we would fall asleep to the late football game only to wake up just in time to rush to the bathroom to deal with the chili-cheese nachos with onions, jalapenos and sour cream we consumed for the 11:00 game. We would get back just in time to see A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney. During this segment he would cover hard hitting and topical subjects like:
Soap is slippery.
Dogs are neat.
Why he doesn’t trim his eyebrows.
Shoelaces.
Today’s youth are not as good as when I was growing up…repeated in the 1970’s, 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s (and rumored to be the last thing he said to his doctor).
Things today are not as good as when I was growing up…repeated in the 1970’s, 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s.
Winter isn’t as good as it used to be.
So we will miss you and your influence over us at SCM. We hate to admit it but our own sarcastic view of the world was shaped in part by you Mr. Rooney. Good bye and God Ble…sorry we forgot. It was more interesting with you here and no one watching than without you.
